The Best Green Makeup

No cosmetic company is perfect. Almost every product on the market contains some questionable ingredients and no matter what, production makes its mark on the environment. But buying a product from any of the three companies would be an improvement over the industry leaders you probably get your cosmetics from now. You undoubtedly care about the earth, but you also care about which product works best for you money, so here’s the verdict…
THE CHEAPEST: Everyday Minerals. A few eye shadows and a lipstick will cost you around ten dollars. Throw in the free sample kit, add three dollars shipping, and for less than the price of one Organic Wear or Aveda product, you’ve got makeup for at least a month.
THE GREENEST: Everyday Minerals. Made by a small, American, eco-minded company, Everyday Minerals are the least toxic of all three brands, including PF’s Organic Wear. The ingredients aren’t all organic, but they are safer and better for your skin than the competition. They’re also much cheaper and less toxic than EM’s leading mineral makeup competition, Bare Minerals.
THE BEST: Everyday Minerals/Aveda. Most formulations of Everyday Minerals’ makeup are every bit as good as Aveda (except for the lipstick). Whatever you’re using now, definitely make the switch to EM’s foundation. Aveda’s cosmetics are available in store and salon, and the lipstick is the most flattering I’ve ever used. Despite the higher price and the slightly higher percentage of synthetic and potentially harmful ingredients (though the Uruku line is more natural), Aveda is still a better choice than most drugstore and department store brands and the effectiveness of the product is more consistent…meaning anything you buy will make you look great.
