Why Go Green?

Moms, I need you to at least TRY to go Green.

My sister and I were talking the other day about going "Green."  We were talking about how everything is Green, and if you're not Green, then you ain't got it.  My question is, "why isn't everyone going green?"

I can remember growing up visiting the health food store with my mom.  My mom, who was always about keeping us healthy, made sure we ate well, and visited the doctor on a routine basis.  We didn't have soft drinks and a bunch of junk food in the house, therefore trips to the local health food store were always a treat to me.  I grew up seeing big barrels of oats, grain, nuts and other coarse meal in the stores and loved seeing how the rows of vitamins and herbal tinctures were lined up.  My love of grocery stores started early and lasted with me even until now.  Trips to Whole Foods and Trader Joes are complete heaven.  Mom knew best, as I was never a sickly kid:  never a case of Chicken Pox, never a cavity, and I think I only caught the flu once, maybe twice.

I got sickly as an adult though...

After my Iraq deployment in 2006, I developed a mysterious rash and boils on my skin.  I saw several specialists and to this day, I still don't think the experts know what it is I have.  I am still a completely functional adult, but have to take allergy medications and carry an epi-pen around with me for the rest of my life.  I don't say this to scare any of you, particularly my sisters serving over seas.  What I'm trying to tell you is that by living healthier, which includes getting rid of chemicals in my home, I haven't had a single outbreak since.

In my home, we don't use bleach, strongly perfumed cleansers, or fabric softeners or detergent-based soaps.  Many of my beauty products don't contain harsh chemicals and I even started using a soy-based hair relaxer.  As a result, I haven't missed a day of work and can continue to be a highly-functioning mama-lete.

I want to hear from you on the things you've done to Green your beauty routine.  By doing so, you will be entered in the contest for the entire line of the new Softlips PURE lip balms.  Please see the contest page for more details.

Be well - and Green!
