The Invisible Woman

I spoke of the invisible woman syndrome a few months ago...you know the one who feels as though she has to do it all, yet at the end of the day is spent because she felt as though someone was able to just know she needed help.

Who is the Invisible woman?

I happen to be very blessed with a husband who loves me, picks me up when I’m down, and a fantastic father to two boys who adore him.  I’ve learned to depend on him when I’ve had to work late.  When this happens, he has dinner ready, and my boys are fed and snug safely in their beds, or ready for me to come in and read a book.  I don’t expect for my husband to magically know when I need this sort of help, but when I ask, he’s there.  As moms we need to have these kind of men in our lives.

It wasn’t always this way though.  There were times when I felt I had to do it all.  Because my mom was a single mom, I saw her struggle to make ends meet, while doing her very best to maintain a household of two growing girls who fought daily.  This couldn’t have been easy, and fortunately for us, we had an extended family that welcomed us with open arms and filled in when mommie needed a well-deserved break.  We need to ensure we have these models in our communities now.  Those who can help where needed.

I tell moms all the time to take care of themselves first.  This is not a selfish declaration, but rather one that will keep us sane, healthy and happy.  So what if your husband or significant other doesn’t get it perfect.  The point is that he gets it.  That is what matters.

Let's talk about it!  Join me for my weekly Q&A call every Wednesday, 8:30 pm EST.  Dial 219-509-8111 Code:  972025.

Be well!
